The Lakes Retreat, Lake District

This group of cosy hideaways have a total of 9 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 18 guests. It the perfect location for your group getaway.

They sit in acres of mature gardens and woodland, where you’re free to wander through colourful grounds and soak up the peace and quiet. As the seasons change, the woodland takes on a different look each time. In late spring the bluebells form a lovely blue carpet, and in autumn the leaves put on a show of their own. You’ll also spot plenty of birds and wildlife about — woodpeckers, deer and the odd hare if you’re lucky.

Right on the edge of the Lakes, it’s a brilliant base if you’re keen to get out exploring. It might be hard to tear yourselves away from such a relaxing spot, but both the Lakes and the Dales are easy to reach. Head east to Sedbergh, Dent and Hawes, or west towards Windermere and Bowness. The northern Lakes are also close enough for a day out, with Ullswater and Haweswater less than an hour’s drive away.

If you’d rather stay nearby, there are plenty of walks and cycle routes for all levels. A few miles down the road, Kendal has loads to offer. This well-loved market town comes with a castle, historic buildings, its famous ‘yards’, riverside views, shops for everyone and a great choice of pubs, cafés and restaurants.
