Property Description

In a small hamlet on the banks of the Dordogne, just a short bike ride from one of the region’s favourite Saturday markets, this place is made up of a stunning main house and a charming cottage, all set in gorgeous grounds with river views, a lovely pool and loads of character.

It’s a real gem of a family home, whether you’re here to explore some of southern France’s best wine appellations or simply spend proper quality time with loved ones. The property dates back to the late 18th century and still shows off plenty of original features — marble floors, exposed stone walls and high beamed ceilings. You can really feel its heritage as you relax in one of the two salons, with their mix of antique and modern pieces, the new grand piano, or enjoy a cosy meal by the roaring fire and antique grandfather clock in the dining room. All the rooms have French doors that open straight out onto the beautiful gardens.

That said, the house has had plenty of modern updates in recent years. The kitchen has been completely re-done for keen cooks, while the peaceful bedrooms come with wool carpets, Bluetooth speakers and brand-new en-suite bathrooms. The top-floor suite is a real favourite — a super king-size bed, freestanding bath, its own lounge with a Smart TV, kettle and mini-fridge, plus views down to the Dordogne.

The cottage in the grounds gives you two extra bedrooms, a modern kitchen and a bright living-dining room with an original Perigordian fireplace at its centre. The vine-covered terrace is a brilliant spot for breakfast, looking out over the lawns and fruit trees — you can pick figs, peaches, plums, apples and pears throughout the summer.

The two acres of grounds are simply lovely, filled with ancient trees, a wildflower terrace overlooking the river and a picture-perfect pool framed by climbing roses, jasmine and lavender. The pool now has its own terrace and a heated shower as well. There are plenty of spots for a peaceful coffee or lively meals outdoors, along with an outdoor bar, games room, trampoline, football goal and a full-size pétanque court.

Surrounded by forests, vineyards and of course the river, you can hop on the bikes and follow the river road to the nearest village, shop and café-bar, just 2km away.

You’ll find great walking and hiking routes right from the doorstep, or you can explore the landscape by canoeing along the Dordogne. Head a little further and you’ll come across even more classic villages like Issigeac, Eymet and Monpazier, along with excellent wineries and everything from relaxed bistros to Michelin-starred restaurants serving the finest French cuisine this region is known for.
