9 Bedroom Secluded Retreat, Devon

This 9-bedroom secluded retreat in Devon sleeps up to 23 guests and each bedroom has its own en-suite, all with their own individual style.

The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished, with some featuring balconies, four-poster beds or king-size beds. Most have lovely views across the valley, and there are also two family bathrooms on the landings.

The main house has loads of character, with a stunning dining room, a big hall and drawing room, plus a cosy library. There’s a large kitchen with an Aga, along with a laundry room, larder and a second prep kitchen.

The drawing room is perfect for relaxing in the evenings, with an open fire and plenty of comfy seating – ideal for winding down after a day out or by the pool.

There’s also a smaller library/snug, which is great for kids to watch a DVD or play games.

All the main rooms open straight out through big French doors onto the veranda and gardens.

The kitchen is roomy and full of original features, but with modern touches too – granite worktops, a table with seating, a 4-oven Aga and a 6-burner electric oven.

Just off the kitchen is a scullery with a commercial 2-minute dishwasher, sink and original shelving for crockery. There’s also a second kitchen at the back with a freezer, sink and extra storage.

You’ll also find a utility room with a washing machine and an additional chest freezer.

Bedroom setup

There are 3 doubles, 2 family rooms (sleeping 4 each), 1 king with a single, 2 king rooms and 1 twin. All rooms are en-suite, with one having its own private bathroom on the landing.

Outside

The property is set in peaceful countryside with large gardens and plenty of space to relax. There’s a children’s outdoor playhouse, a BBQ, and lots of seating across the lawns and veranda.

The fenced, heated outdoor pool is open from Whitsun to mid-September.

BBQs aren’t just for summer. Picture this: it’s cold, wet and windy outside, but you’re tucked up warm inside the BBQ hut, gathered round the fire. It feels like you’re out in nature, yet you’re only a few steps from the comfort of the house.

It’s always cosy and a bit more special than your average summer house – just light the fire, sit back and enjoy it, whatever the weather’s doing. Imagine the smell of mulled wine gently warming, steaks sizzling over the flames, and toasting marshmallows while you keep your feet warm. It’s brilliant for a romantic evening or getting everyone together.

On summer nights, once the sun’s gone down, it’s just as nice to sit round the fire and relax. Great for parties and entertaining all year round, with a lovely atmosphere and views that really stick with you.

• A £500 refundable damages deposit is required upon payment of final balance. This will be returned following departure and inspection of property.
